Van Der Graaf Generator
Stripped down trio to unleash ‘Trisector’
Since Van Der Graaf Generator made a storming return to live performance in the spring of 2007, the band is a stripped-down trio of original 1968 members Hugh Banton (organ), Guy Evans (drums) and Peter Hammill (vox, guitar, piano).
The trio started recording their new album last summer and after a period of mixing and overdubbing 'Trisector' is ready for release on 17 March.
There are nine pieces on the album, one of them instrumental. Unusually for Van Der Graaf Generator, only one of these is more than ten minutes long - indeed, five come in at under five minutes.
There are, of course passages of great complexity but there’s also a confidence about the group, which allows them to leave some simple things as they are.
Live dates: March 27th Manchester RNCM 29th Livorno – Italy 31st Amsterdam – Milkweg
April 2nd Wolverhampton Wulfrun Hall 3rd London – Queen Elizabeth Hall 6th Oporto, Gouveia Festival
There will also be a show in Russia on the 20th April. The album ‘Trisector’ is out on 17 March
