The Roll Deep Crew jump "In At The Deep End"
The debut album from East London's finest is about to hit- Buckle up as Roll Deep's record hits the streets June 6th
There's UK garage, there's always gonna be Hip-Hop but the east london outfit fall into their own category of grime under the tag of the Eskimo beat. Self-proclaimed as being angry and cold, Roll Deep's debut album does more than make their mark, it scars. They do this without a pigeon-hole effect as the album bounces across vaying themes and styles.
From the creeping tempo and unusual sound of 'When I'm Ere' to the twanged out summer-flow of 'Bus Stop', "In At The Deep End" is a record that rests easy on the ears but has all the pent-up aggression of Sigmund and Roy's Tiger.
The 13 strong outfit, have created something they can be proud of. Something that doesn't fall into the bargain bucket of UK garage/Hip-Hop or UK Urban gloop that comes and goes equally as fast.
'Avenue' samples the 80's Maisonnetts 'Heartache Avenue' to full effect, highlighting it as one of the album's best, not because of the original sample, but because of how it has been used. The lyrics fit into the retro glove with ease as on the track 'Let It Out' where they sit and resonate with intelligent serenity.
This album serves as a surprising gem within the miriad of groups claiming to be street but lack musicality- Roll Deep hold both qualities firmly in their hands.
'In At the Deep End' will be flying off the shelves June 6th.
