The Return of A Northern Star!

Q:  How are you generally?

A:  Generally I'm very good.  It's all getting a bit crazy though as we're coming up to the completion of the album, so it's all getting a bit hectic.  Things like press are starting, and photoshoots, and that isn't really one of my favourite things.

Q:  Are you starting to feel a bit apprehensive?  is it a bit like 'oh
yeah, I remember this?'

A:  Yeah, it's like, here we go again. But y'know I'm so pleased with the album, it sounds great, and I'm really excited about it.

Q:  Well how does it feel to be on the eve of your second album?

A:  I'm so excited about this new record.  I've been working on this album for just over a year now, we went back in the studio in November of last year, and the whole time I've just been excited because the songs just kept coming and they sounded really good.  And then, it was only a few months ago when we started mixing that I thought, 'what if no one likes it?', 'what if it's a disaster?', 'what if I have to think about doing something else as a career?' All these fears started to set in!  But generally, I've just been excited because I do think it's good, and I think it's going to be alright.  But there's always that element of fear and doubt.

Q:  Did you feel like that with Northern Star?

A:  No, I was completely naive that time.  I think I was just out of my mind actually, because obviously I was still working with the Spice Girls at that point, and I was just really excited to be doing something on my own.  And y'know I didn't really think about it, I
just thought people would accept it, which eventually most people have.  I've had a great response, but there were a few doubters at first.

Q:  It's always the way when you have time to think about something.

A:  I know, it's best not to, just keep going.

Q:  In what way is this album 'Reason' similar and different to
'Northern Star'?

A:   I think it's similar in the way that there's lots of different influences on there, quite different in styles.  I feel, I know it's really obvious and that people always say it, but I feel it is more mature.  Mainly because it's about five years on from when we started writing Northern Star, so I've grown up a bit.  I'm twenty eight now, I'm cracking on!  And differences?  Probably in the music again; I don't think that each song is such a departure from the next song. Whereas I think Northern Star was a little bit disjointed in that each song was so individual.  I think this album does show a lot of styles but it gels more.  And also I think production wise we've ended up going for something that's a little more simple.  I think in everything, in videos, films, and tv, everything's a little bit complicated, technology has really taken over.  I think it's really nice when you see something simple, so the album's quite so.
