What kind of relationship do you have?
Jill: It's like brother and sister...
Can you tell us how you got together?
Jill: We met through a mutual friend when i was in another band and the drummer wasn't very good so I was looking for a drummer and he knew a drummer. He gave me Jims number...it was about 4 years ago. He came and...I wouldn't say he auditioned but...
Jim: I think this band auditioned for the drummer (smiles)
Jill: No...erm that was it.
What exactly do you both do?
Jill: I sing and play guitar and we write everything together.
Jim: I play drums.
Jill: Jim does all the programming as well.
Why the name Speedway?
Jill: It came from an Elvis film called Speedway
Jim: It was with Nancy Sinatra
Jill: And we were looking for a new name because the one we had at the time was awful.
What was that?
Jill: I knew you were going to ask that! The band was called Dirty Pink Frock and it was so bad.
Jim: The band was called that when I joined it.
Jill: And the film had Speedway written in lights in the background and it sounded good.
It seems to fit your music...
Jim: Ay. It's mostly upbeat kind of stuff.
Jill: It's very guitar driven.
Now a little about your backgrounds. How did you come to this point? Musically what were you listening to?
Jill: As I was growing up and still now I was listening to a lot of country music. I would say that is one of my biggest influences. I think there's really good musicians in country music and it made me want to play guitar. I listened to a lot of Tracy Chapman.
Which country artists are you into?
Jill: Dolly Parton of course but people like Mary Chopin Carpenter, Faith Hill. I do like other stuff but...
Jim: I was brought up on...my brother had most of the Beatles CDs and stuff like that. AC/DC as well. It was good stuff to get into. It sort of progressed into U2. they were my biggest influences as a teenager.
