Beenie Man is Back, And Back in a BIG Way!
Beenie Man Interview 04/09/02
Q: How are you and what have you been up to? A: I'm fine, I've been doing promotion for about a month now.
Q: Has it been gruelling? A: Yeah, it's hard but I do it
Q: Where have you been promoting the album A: I was in the Us, I've just finished in the United States and now I'm in England
Q: So you're here to promote your new album, firstly, can you describe the blend of music on this album? A: This album is hip hop, r'n'b, UK garage, pop, and dance music.
Q: Which artists have you worked with? A: I worked with Lil Kim, Janet Jackson, this kid called Jay1, is on the album, and while I was here I worked with So Solid Crew
Q: Is there anyone you wanted to work on the album who couldn't make it? A: Jill Scott, but hopefully on the next album
Q: What producers have you been working with? A: I worked with crazy producers; The Neptunes, So Solid, The Stargate crew over there in Norway, and with Matt from Virgin, he worked on the track with the Stargate kids. I worked with a lot of producers, I worked with myself.
Q: So was it your idea to work with these people, or did they approach you? A: It wasn't my idea, me and Patrick sat down and planned and decided which producers we wanted to use. And then my professor Clyde Mackenzie made the choices and his choice was right.
Q: You mentioned that you got to work with the Neptunes, what is the creative process like when working with them? A: The Neptunes are very creative, they know they're music, they keep the music real. I've played crazy things and it turns into genius. I've known the Neptunes as long as I've known Clef - Wyclef Jean - so I know these kids.
Q: Would you like to work with Wyclef again? A: Yes, on the next album, we will write a different sound and a bigger sound. This time when I was working on my album, he was working on his... and I don't want to just be on his album, I want us to produce a single.
Q: Your first single is called 'Feel It Boy', why did you decided to release this as a single? A: Because it was a dream, to work with Janet Jackson, you can't have Janet Jackson on the album and put it out as second or third single. It would be insulting. |
