BLACK REBEL MOTORCYCLE CLUB INTERVIEW
First of all tell us a bit about how the band originally got together?
Peter Hayes (guitar, vocals): "Me and Rob met in High School and right around then we started playing, then we got in the band in San Francisco with a different drummer and another guitar player and thats when we met Nick. He came to a show and started playing tambourine and maracas or something like that while we were playing, and then a year or so later we called him up because we wanted to start to do our own thing."
Robert Turner (bass): "Initially, at high school, Peter was just hanging around with the same crowd I was, and he just had a guitar on his back every day, so it was pretty easy to spot him. I just really wanted to find somebody to play music with and he played a mean guitar. We were at a kind of upper class school, so we were really like the poor kids at the rich school, so you just kind of find other kids that are just like you."
Which artists inspired you to make music in the first place?
Peter: "I guess Jimi Hendrix actually. Nick might be more from The Beatles and Im not sure about Rob. Also, for me, Nirvana and some Nine Inch Nails too."
Why did you first decide to pick up the bass guitar, Rob?
Robert: "I dunno why, I started playing. It just felt right I guess. I think I just wanted to do something that was easy, and it came pretty easy. I didnt want to accomplish some great feat. I didnt have the attention span for that. It came quick and felt good."
Whatever Happened To My Rock N Roll? includes the addendum (Punk Song), what does punk mean to you?
