We Caught Up with Kelis Down St Martin's Lane Hotel
What have you been up to since we spoke to you last?
Well, 'Get Along With You' came out and I've also been touring and recording my second album. I toured Japan, Europe the US...all over.
Did you work with the Neptunes again or did you get other producers involved with new album?
Yeah, I just got the Neptunes working with me again.
You performed Lionel Ritchie's track 'Hello', is that going to appear on the new album?
No, I mean its been redone more than once so I don't think so. Is there any track that you would love to cover for the album? No, I mean I love doing covers, it's just that for the album it would have to be a really really special tune.
'Young, Fresh and New' is the first single to be taken from the new album, what's it all about?
'Young, Fresh and New' is kind of like a call, its a message, I guess to everybody under the age of thirty five whose going along with life and not taking it by the reins. All those young people who are really talented and can do a lot of things but for some reason they're not going for it just because people tell them how to live and how to be. I think it's more about just going for it you know, and enjoying the time we have here because it is really short.
You're going to be doing an UK tour in August, what can people expect from the performances?
I don't know, you'll just have to come see!
Are you going to do any festivals this year?
I'm doing some tour dates and I'm opening up for U2 this summer so that's what I'll be doing most of the time.
How did that come about?
Well we have the same agent...so we finally met up and it just went on from there. I told my agent that I really wanted to work with him and found out he really wanted to work with me so it went on from there.
How would you say things have changed for you since the release of 'Caught Out There' over a year ago?
