Swinging axes and grinding words..here's BRMC
J: How is this record different from the last?
B.R.M.C: The albums stepped up a gear a little. We used the same process as we used to record the last record, so there are similarities in the sound but its stripped down much more. This time it seemed a little easier to get to the destination. Lyrically, theres more intent than the last record had. We were more focused this time round...looking inside for answers that are on the outside. For us analysis is as dangerous as not looking at all.
J: Why did you choose to record in East London?
B.R.M.C: It was cheap, it was there.
J: Was recording easy?
B.R.M.C: The basics were quite easy, but the overdubs took longer. The songs found their shape on the road...so they were pretty much ready to go. They worked on stage, so theres no reason to cut them up.
J: Did the gigs influence the recording?
B.R.M.C: Yeah...we toured for two years straight, its bound to effect you...thats partially what happened on this album. It felt like a fight for two years...trying to prove ourselves. We still wanna try and get the point across.
J: What happened in the mixing stage?
B.R.M.C: Most of the blame lies with 6 Barelled Shot Gun, and it knows that and will be punished. That one took a long time, and tried mixing it seven times, and had to actually leave it. Wed go an do a different song, and it would take like half a day, then wed go back to six barrell and think we could do it, and it just wouldnt work so we were like, fuck it, and tore it down again. Its the nature of knowing whats outta control, and what needs to pushed. It took half the time of the whole process. Were pretty happy now though.
J: Favourite track on the album?
B.R.M.C: Rob If I had to pick one to send into outer space, Id pick In Like The Rose.
J: Tell us about the new single? Did you choose it?
B.R.M.C: Were of the opinion...just take what you want. We love the song, use the whole thing (album), any one of them could be a single. We want our first impression to be a good one. Were happy with our songs, and we have confidence in them. |
